Salzburg Photo Gallery: Dreaming Spires of Salzburg


The phrase of the 'dreaming spires' was originally used for a university town in England - however, Salzburg has actually more of them than almost any other town of its size and age. The Baroque buildign boom has left the city with a large number of palaces, towers and churches. The key to Salzburg's wealth lies in the province's south:
Mines that were rich in salt, gold and other ores enabled the Prince Archbishops to finance the elaborate architecture that makes Salzburg now a UNESCO World Cultural Heritage site.
