Salzburger Barockmuseum – Salzburg Baroque MuseumSince 1973, the Salzburg Baroque museum is located in the southern wing of the orangerie of Mirabell Castle. It is based on the private collection of Kurt and Else Rossacher, which they donated to the city and province of Salzburg to display it to the public.
The Salzburg Baroque Museum prides itself for being the only museum in Europe dedicated entirely to sketches for proper art and calls it – slightly pompously – “the moment of birth” of the respective artworks. No matter if you buy that or not, it is definitely worth looking at the most impulsive, initial outline of artworks you might know from their final stages. The museum itself is –
especially for art-interested visitors of Salzburg – certainly worthwhile and
might be a good supplement to the Residenzgalerie
or the Carolino Augusteum Museum. LinksClick here to find the Baroque Museum on our Salzburg Map
